Narrative:
UPDATE 01: A Panama-flagged crude oil tanker was struck by an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) approximately 9NM north of Khasab, Oman. Reportedly, the UAV impacted the vessel’s starboard bridge, subsequently the vessel sustained minor damage. At the time of the incident, no casualties had been reported in relation to the incident, this was later corroborated by a second source. At the time of writing, the vessel reportedly remained seaworthy and continued underway. The vessel was outbound, likely laden with Al Shaheen grade Qatari crude, with AIS indicating the vessel was inbound to Fujairah, United Arab Emirates. The vessel previously transmitted AIS signals five hours prior to the incident, whilst underway at 13 knots headed towards the Strait of Hormuz. However, at the time of the incident the vessel had stopped transmitting AIS signals. Ambrey has upgraded this event to War Risk – Physical Damage.

AVDICE: Merchant vessels are advised to conduct a reassessment of voyage risk assessments completed after the MOU was signed. Bridge manning should be the minimum required, and others should gather in safe muster points, away from external walls and windows. In the event of an incident, report using secure satellite communications. E-mail regular positions to the US also using secure satellite internet communications. Do not use these devices unnecessarily. Keep AIS off for the duration of the transit, and until you pass out of the North Arabian Sea.

Ambrey is aware of an incident approximately 5NM northwest of Salib, Oman. Ambrey is investigating and will provide updates when available.
