Priority Alert – Europe and the Mediterranean
War risk/Physical damage
Details
Narrative:
The Armed Forces of Ukraine announced that two merchant tankers were attacked in the Black Sea on 19 July. These attacks form part of Ukraine’s ongoing campaign against Russian-affiliated shipping. Between 06 July and 19 July, approximately 118 merchant vessels have been struck in the Sea of Azov, and 56 in the Black Sea. Ambrey notes that the number of vessels affected is likely lower than reported, as repeated strikes on individual vessels have been observed.

ADVICE: Vessels conducting Black Sea port calls are advised to conduct comprehensive dynamic voyage threat assessments. The crew is advised to remain within the designated Safe Muster Point (SMP) during unmanned aerial vehicle or missile attacks on infrastructure. The SMP should be located above the waterline, amidships, and low down in the superstructure.
