Priority Broadcast Alert – Europe and the Mediterranean

An NGO has claimed that a boat has been fired upon by the Libyan Coast Guard approximately 92NM southwest of Malta. Reports indicated that three individuals were injured, and there was one fatality. At the time of the report, “militias” were still near the vessel “firing at them”. The boat’s position was reported as within the Maltese search and rescue (SAR) zone. Advice: Merchant shipping in the area is advised to adopt extreme caution. Crew members should remain inside, and restrict deck movements. Report any suspicious behaviour and distress reports to the responsible SAR authority for immediate intervention.
