1. The case for rethinking career pathways in shipping. Despite the industry’s evolution in many aspects, representation and inclusion still have a long way to go. The second Women in Maritime survey, co-published by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and the Women’s International Shipping & Trading Association (WISTA), offered valuable insight into the gender gap in the sector, showing just 176,820 women in maritime roles as of 2024.

2. Mandatory Update for Ship-to-Ship Operations Plan for Panama Flagged Oil Tankers. The Panama Maritime Authority (PMA), through adopted circular MMC-217, has introduced stricter requirements for ship-to-ship (STS) transfers of oil cargo.
The new STS controls of PMA circular MMC-217 are intended to support the “shadow fleet” preventative measures of IMO Resolution A.1192(33)

3. AD Ports Group signs a 50-year Land Lease Agreement at Khalifa Port with Emirates Food Industries Group. AED 2 Billion Facility Reinforces Khalifa Port’s Position as a Premier Logistics and Trade Hub in the Region
 AD Ports Group, a global enabler of integrated trade, transport and logistics solutions, has signed a 50-year land lease agreement with Emirates Food Industries, a member of the National Holding Group.

4. “K” LINE participates in Onboard Fire Response Drill at Laem Chabang Port. Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha,  participated in the “Fire Drill Exercise on Board 2025” held at Berth A5 of Namyong Terminal PCL in Laem Chabang Port, Thailand. The drill was conducted to simulate a realistic onboard emergency in order to verify inter-agency coordination and strengthen emergency response capabilities.

5. Fred Olsen Windcarrier lands German wind farm deal. Norwegian offshore wind installation player Fred Olsen Windcarrier has been selected by Skyborn Renewables, a German offshore wind developer of Blackrock’s Global Infrastructure Partners (GIP), to handle transport and installation of the wind turbines for the Gennaker offshore wind farm in the German Baltic Sea.

6. Boskalis and Allseas to construct $1.4bn gas pipeline off Taiwan. A consortium of Boskalis and Allseas has been awarded a contract by CPC Corporation Taiwan for the second offshore gas pipeline from Yongan to Tongxiao.The total contract value is approximately €1.2bn ($1.39). This project is intended to improve the gas supply capacity in northern Taiwan.

7. Union Maritime locks in $130m financing for wind‑assisted RL2 newbuilds. Diversified UK shipowner Union Maritime has closed a $130m delivery financing package for two next‑generation LR2 tankers. The deal was led by Société Générale and the Export–Import Bank of China and arranged through a syndicated facility. The vessels are scheduled for delivery from Yangzijiang Shipbuilding in late 2025 and early 2026.

8. Ukraine Rolls Out Remote IDs for Seafarers Stranded by War. Ukraine is set to implement a pioneering pilot scheme allowing remote processing of Seafarers’ Identity Documents (SIDs), providing critical relief to thousands of Ukrainian maritime professionals unable to return home due to the ongoing conflict.

9. China Stake in CK Hutchison Port Sale Could Ease Beijing Pressure but US Geopolitical Risks Remain. The proposed inclusion of Chinese shipping giant COSCO in Hong Kong conglomerate CK Hutchison’s contentious global ports sale is a potential win for Beijing in a strategic sector, but the deal is far from final and could face resistance from Washington, sources and analysts say.

10. First US Cable Boat for Offshore Wind Starts Work in Trump’s Shadow. The first US-flagged boat that can bury the undersea cables to connect offshore wind turbines to the power grid on land has started work within view of the Statue of Liberty and the New York City skyline.
