Lloyd’s Register (LR) has enhanced its Fatigue Design Assessment (FDA) methodology by updating worldwide trading patterns for containerships and gas carriers based on comprehensive analysis of Automatic Identification System (AIS) data from the past 11 years.

3. Fr Meyer’s Sohn acquires South African freight forwarder GAC Laser. Fr. 4. U-Ming completes first B24 biofuel bunkering, marking a key step toward low-carbon shipping and 2050 net-zero goals. U-Ming Marine Transport Corporation announced that its 64K bulk carrier, Asian Progress, has successfully completed its first bunkering operation of B24 biofuel (FAME B24) at the Port of Singapore. This marks U-Ming’s first vessel to adopt biofuel, signifying a major step forward in the company’s journey toward low-carbon shipping and its commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.

5. West Africa now drives one in seven cape cargoes. West Africa now represents 14% of capesize liftings as compared to 6% three years ago, according to new data from Jefferies, an investment bank. The redrawing of the global cape trading map has been driven by strong bauxite export growth, mainly out of Guinea. Cape volumes out of West Africa are up 31% this year, according to analysts at Jefferies, who note that the November launch of the giant Simandou iron ore project in Guinea will see more long-haul cape loadings from West Africa, tightening the market further.

6. Sri Lanka’s top court orders $1bn payout over X-Press Pearl disaster. Sri Lanka’s Supreme Court has ordered the owners and operators of the X-Press Pearl container vessel to pay $1bn in compensation for the devastating environmental and economic damage caused when the ship caught fire and sank off Colombo in 2021.
