1. IMO: ESPO regrets postponement of the NET Zero Framework for shipping: postponement should not lead to cancellation of ambition. The European Sea Ports Organisation (ESPO) expresses serious concern over the International Maritime Organisation’s (IMO) decision to postpone the adoption of the Net-Zero Framework (NZF) by one year. The delay, decided during last week’s Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC) meeting in London, risks creating a standstill in global climate ambition and lowering the pace of progress in maritime decarbonisation.

3. BIMCO Shipping Number of the Week. Container ship recycling overhang estimated at minimum 1.8 million TE

“So far this year, only 10 container ships have been recycled. This extends a pattern of low recycling activity seen since 2021 as many ships have continued trading beyond their usual recycling age. As a result, we estimate that a recycling overhang of minimum 500 ships and 1.8 million TEU now exists,” says Niels Rasmussen, Chief Shipping Analyst at BIMCO.

4. HD Hyundai Heavy, Huntington Ingalls To Jointly Build U.S. Navy Ships. South Korea’s HD Hyundai Heavy Industries 329180.KS and U.S. military shipbuilder Huntington Ingalls HII.N have agreed to jointly build U.S. navy auxiliary ships, the South Korean shipbuilder said on Sunday.

5. Supertanker Rates Soar as Buyers Scramble to Replace Russian Oil. 

The supertanker freight futures surged on Thursday and Friday after the U.S. sanctions against Russia’s biggest oil firms created a rush to replace Russian barrels. The front-month supertanker contracts on the route Middle East to China, the benchmark route, jumped by 16% on Thursday, to the highest level in nearly two years, according to data from the Baltic Exchange data cited by Bloomberg.

6. Oceanbulk linked to boxships comeback. Greek shipowner Petros Pappas is edging back into the container market, with his privately held firm Oceanbulk reportedly striking a deal for a pair of feeder newbuildings in China.Shipbuilding and market sources have tied Oceanbulk to a contract for two 3,100 teu boxships at Zhoushan Changhong International Shipyard, priced at around $47m apiece. Deliveries are expected between late 2027 and early 2028.

7. Stena offloads fire-damaged tanker for repair in Turkey. Stena Bulk has sold the fire-damaged Stena Immaculate to an undisclosed buyer who plans to repair the vessel at Desan Shipyard in Turkey.

The Swedish tanker owner confirmed the sale, saying the deal involves the 2017-built 49,700-dwt MR unit, which was badly damaged in a collision with the containership Solong in the North Sea in March 2025.

8. Maritime faces mainstream media reckoning. The sound of screeching breaks can be heard around the world. 9. Cargoship ‘Thamesborg’ Arrives in Eastern Canada After 10-week Odyssey, Grounding in Arctic. Thamesborg‘s journey from China to Canada was supposed to take just three to four weeks via an Arctic shortcut. It ended up lasting more than two months. Wagenborg’s general cargo ship has reached its originally intended destination of Baie Comeau in eastern Canada.

10. Hurricane Melissa Explodes in Strength, Poses Peril For Jamaica. Storm Melissa exploded in strength overnight, barreling toward an expected landfall Tuesday on Jamaica as a major hurricane and threatening deadly floods in Haiti, the Dominican Republic and Cuba.
