1. Lloyd’s Register expands advisory services to meet maritime industry’s evolving needs. 4. February cargo volume stays strong at Port of Los Angeles. “For 17 of the last 19 months, the Port of Los Angeles has experienced year-over-year cargo growth, all without ship delays or back-ups on our docks,” Port of Los Angeles Executive Director Gene Seroka said at a Port of Los Angeles media briefing. “That’s a testament to the outstanding work of the women and men of the International Longshore and Warehouse Union, our terminal operators, truckers, railroads and other stakeholders.

5. Drydocks World scores FPSO refurbishment deal from Modec. Dubai-based Drydocks World has been awarded a contract to refurbish and extend the operational life of the Baobab Ivoirian FPSO by floater expert Modec.

The project is scheduled to begin in May 2025 and last for eight months. It will include extensive structural improvements to the vessel, including the renewal of 1,000 tons of steel, the coating of 250,000 square meters of tanks, and the installation of 11,500 meters of new piping.

6. Wood extends deadline for Sidara takeover talks. UK consulting and engineering firm Wood has extended the deadline for discussions over a possible takeover by Dubai-based company Sidara.

Last month, Wood confirmed reports that Dar Al-Handasah Consultants Shair and Partners, also known as Sidara, has made an approach for a possible offer for the entire issued and to be issued share capital of the company.

7. Wallenius Wilhelmsen bags transport deal extension worth $2bn. Norwegian car carrier operator Wallenius Wilhelmsen has been awarded a 10-year contract extension with an undisclosed automotive equipment manufacturer.

According to an Oslo Bors filing, the long-term deal has an overall estimated gross revenue of $2bn and is set to start in April 2027.

8. Trump Says Nations Buying Venezuela Oil, Gas Face 25% Charge. President Donald Trump said he would seek a 25% tariff on any nation purchasing oil and gas from Venezuela, citing migration and criminal gang members in the US.

9. U.S. Navy Dispatches Second Destroyer to Patrol ‘Southern Border’. Following last week’s deployment of the USS Gravely to the southern border, the U.S. Navy announced the departure of another Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer to support border operations. USS Spruance (DDG 111) will be patrolling the Pacific waters of the border region in the USNORTHCOM area of responsibility.

10. Maersk and Port of New York and New Jersey Agree on 33-Year Lease Extension. Danish A.P. Moller – Maersk and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ) will continue their long-lasting partnership well into the second half of the 21st century. The two companies agreed to extend the lease of the APM Terminals Elizabeth’s lease by 33 years through December 2062. The extension comes several years ahead of the current contract expiring in 2029.
