2. OOCL admits upcoming US port fees will have ‘relatively large impact’. Orient Overseas (International) Ltd (OOIL), the listed entity of Hong Kong container line OOCL, has conceded that October’s likely introduction of extra port fees for Chinese-linked tonnage could be painful.

3. Bill Gates in Korea to further nuclear-powered ships project with HD Hyundai. Bill Gates, in his role as founder of TerraPower, met with HD Hyundai’s executive vice-chairman Chung Kisun in Seoul today to further a strategic partnership aiming to commercialise small modular reactor (SMR) propulsion.

5. Largest floating drydock built in Turkey delivered to USA. US shipbuilder General Dynamics NASSCO reported its new floating drydock has arrived in Long Beach, California, following its delivery voyage on heavy-lift ship BOKA Vanguard.The Californian shipbuilder posted several images of the 35,000-tonne lifting capacity floating drydock, documenting its delivery to its San Diego shipyard on social media.

6. Pioneer Bulk pushes large bulker buying spree past US$200M in two years. The company’s latest addition is 2019-built, 208,572-dwt Port Ellen, formerly known as Mineral Hiroshige. Built at Japan’s Imabari Shipbuilding, the vessel reportedly changed hands in late June for about US$64M. Port Ellen has already been added to Pioneer Bulk’s published fleet list.

7. OceanPact secures contracts for four ROV support vessels in US$583M deal. Brazilian state-run energy group, Petrobras, has contracted OceanPact to provide four vessels to support subsea services using remotely operated vehicles (ROVs).

8. Contecon Manzanillo expands global connectivity with new WAN HAI service. Contecon Manzanillo, International Container Terminal Services, Inc.’s (ICTSI) operation in the Port of Manzanillo, Mexico, is enhancing its logistics offering with the introduction of WAN HAI Lines’ Asia-South America West Coast 2 (WSA2) service. The service made its inaugural call at Contecon on August 11 with the arrival of the vessel WAN HAI A16.

9. ZIM reports financial results for the second quarter of 2025. ZIM Integrated Shipping Services Ltd. has announced its consolidated results for the three ended June 30, 2025. Net income for the second quarter was $24 million (compared to $373 million in the second quarter of 2024), or diluted earnings per share of $0.194 (compared to $3.08 in the second quarter of 2024). Adjusted EBITDA for the second quarter was $472 million, a year-over-year decrease of 38%.

10. APM Terminals seals $1bn ports deal in India. Maersk’s port operating arm, APM Terminals, has signed a memorandum of understanding with India’s Andhra Pradesh Maritime Board to invest 9,000 crore (around $1.1bn) in the development of three key ports in the state.
