1. Lloyd’s Register and DYNAMARINe join forces to strengthen safety and assurance in ship-to-ship transfer operations. Lloyd’s Register has entered into a strategic collaboration with DYNAMARINe to deliver an independent auditing scheme for ship-to-ship service providers. 

Under the agreement, LR’s auditors will assess STS service providers against the quality and safety standards established by OCIMF Guidelines and risk data and records of DYNAMARINe. The resulting audit reports will be reviewed and evaluated by DYNAMARINe, which will then issue a final assessment and performance score to each participating provider.

2. APM Terminals Gothenburg receives thrice-weekly calls to Asia. For the first time in history, APM Terminals Gothenburg will receive three weekly mainliner calls to Asia. The new service enables more frequent, reliable, and sustainable transport of goods between Asia and Sweden.

3. Mixed picture for Port of Antwerp-Bruges in volatile trade climate.  In the first nine months of 2025, Port of Antwerp-Bruges handled 202.6 million tonnes of maritime goods, a decrease of 3.8% compared with the same period last year. The throughput of general cargo, including containers, conventional general cargo and RoRo, increased by 1.3%, while dry and liquid bulk together declined by 12.8%.

4. Shipping heavyweights join bid to standardise emissions tracking. Carbon Measures, a new global coalition representing major businesses from diverse industries and geographies, including famous names from shipping, ports and large charterers, has launched this week seeking to establish what they claim is a more accurate carbon accounting framework as well as to drive market-based solutions to reduce emissions at the lowest cost. ‍

5. Evergreen taps Samsung Heavy and Guangzhou Shipyard International for 14 ships. Taiwan’s Evergreen has split its next fleet expansion plans equally between China and South Korea.Greek broker Intermodal is reporting Taiwan’s largest liner has ordered 14 LNG dual-fuel 14,000 teu vessels, split equally between Guangzhou Shipyard International (GSI) and Samsung Heavy Industries. Costing about $200m each, for a total outlay of around $2.8bn, the ships will deliver between 2028 and 2030.

6. DeepSea: The autonomy age is here. 2026 will be the year autonomy takes off in cargo shipping, specifically with regards to propulsion automation, followed by full navigation automation in the forthcoming years, predicts Konstantinos Kyriakopoulos, CEO and co-founder of DeepSea, one of maritime’s best-known AI brands.

8. How a ‘Dark Fleet’ of Tankers Helped a Mexican Cartel Build a Fuel-Smuggling Empire. On the afternoon of March 8, a petroleum tanker named Torm Agnes entered the Port of Ensenada on Mexico’s Pacific coast carrying almost 120,000 barrels of diesel.Such a vessel was a rare sight in that port, which mainly hosts cruise liners, luxury yachts and container ships. Ensenada lacks the infrastructure needed to unload cargos of flammable hydrocarbons safely – making what happened later that day odder still.

9. Falmouth Harbour to Pilot UK’s PINS Project. The UK Government-funded ‘Port Infrastructure using Novel energy Storage’ (PINS) project will explore scalable, smart recharging systems for vessels, integrating advanced battery technologies and energy management to overcome grid constraints and cost barriers.

10. Shory Integrates Digital Marine Insurance Service into Smart DMA App. Shory, the world’s largest insurance technology seed fund, has launched the first fully digital marine insurance service in partnership with the Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation (PCFC). The service is integrated directly into the Smart Dubai Maritime Authority (DMA) app.
