1. d’Amico uses option to buy MR tanker way below market value. Italian product tanker owner and operator d’Amico International Shipping (DIS) has exercised its purchase option for the 50,000 dwt medium-range product tanker Crimson Pearl.The vessel was built in August 2017 by Japan’s Minaminippon Shipbuilding. The eco MR product tanker has been time-chartered-in by d’Amico Tankers ever since.

2. UK invests in DR Congo’s first deepwater box port. The UK’s development finance arm, British International Investment (BII), has joined Dubai-headquartered terminal operator DP World with a capital injection directed towards the development of the Democratic Republic of the Congo’s first deepwater container port.

3. Sumitomo buys stake in German offshore wind monopile manufacturer. Japan’s Sumitomo Corporation has bought a stake in the family-run monopile producer EEW Offshore Wind Holding.The transaction will have a commercial effect from July 1 and will be completed at the end of December 2024, subject to legal and regulatory requirements.

4. ZIM Stock Surges on Earnings Beat, Upgraded Guidance. Israeli container shipping company ZIM Integrated Shipping Services Ltd. (NYSE: ZIM) announced its consolidated results for the three and six months ended June 30, 2024. The company reported earnings per share of $3.08, significantly exceeding analysts’ estimates of $1.79, which led to a more than 20% surge in its stock price on Monday morning.

7. HMM to boost Petrochemical Carrier Fleet, diversifying beyond Container Shipping. HMM, a company primarily focused on the container shipping business, has decided to place a new order for petrochemical carriers, also known as product carriers (PCs).
According to industry sources on August 19, HMM’s board of directors approved a new facility investment for the construction of petrochemical carriers this June. HMM stated, “We have decided to place a new order for bulk carriers capable of transporting petrochemical products.”
