Exports of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Russia’s Yamal LNG plant have slowed slightly in July so far compared with the same period a year due to a longer wait for vessels to offload the fuel in Europe, ship-tracking data from LSEG showed on Thursday.

3. Rio Tinto’s iron ore shipments miss estimates due to May train derailment. Global mining giant Rio Tinto, opens new tab, (RIO.L), opens new tab reported second-quarter iron ore shipments below analyst estimates on Tuesday, reflecting impacts to production from a train derailment in mid-May.

4. Japan, S. Korea refiners join China in buying Canadian TMX oil By Florence Tan. Asia’s crude oil imports from Canada’s newly expanded Trans Mountain pipeline will rise in September as major refiners in Japan and South Korea and a refinery in Brunei have bought their first cargoes alongside China, multiple trade sources said.

5. Lidl’s shipping line swells fleet. Tailwind Shipping Lines, founded two years ago by German supermarket chain Lidl to battle covid-related shipping chaos, has grown its fleet to nine ships, and now operates three services designed to bring goods from Asia to Europe.

6. Nine crew saved from capsized tanker off Oman. Omani authorities say nine members of a 16-strong Indian and Sri Lankan crew have been rescued, after going missing when their tanker capsized off the coast of Oman on Monday. One other has been found dead.

7. VLCC rates under pressure as Saudi Arabia slashes exports. New data from Vortexa shows VLCC utilisation for OPEC+ – excluding Iran and Venezuela – fell sharply during June and reached a record low earlier this month, as exports from the group, especially Saudi Arabia, fell sharply.

9. U.S. Military Ends Gaza Pier Mission. The U.S. military announced on Wednesday that its mission to install and operate a temporary, floating pier off the coast of Gaza was complete, formally ending an extraordinary but troubled effort to bring humanitarian aid to Palestinians.

10. Damaged Subsea Cables Repaired in Red Sea. Repairs have finally commenced on three subsea telecommunications cables that were damaged in the Red Sea in February, even as Houthi militants escalate their attacks on ships in the area.The AAE-1 cable, a 25,000-kilometer (15,500 miles) fiber optic link between Asia and Europe, was repaired by a ship owned by E-Marine, a subsidiary of Abu Dhabi-based Emirates Telecommunications Group.
