Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement (BSM) has opened a new Maritime Training Centre (MTC) in Ghana, further cementing its position in the region. The new MTC (render pictured) is located on the campus of the Regional Maritime University (RMU) in Accra, Ghana, with whom BSM established a local representative office as well as a cadet programme in 2012.

3. Seafarer salaries have risen but so have retention rates, Danica survey reveals. Retaining seafarers has improved slightly over the past year, thanks in part to salary raises, the annual Crew Managers’ Survey by Danica Crewing Specialistshas revealed.
In its survey of in-house crew managers in ship owning and shipmanagement companies, almost 90% reported that they had increased salaries in 2024. Only seven per cent said they had not raised crew wages over the past year. Companies were more generous too – with increases above those reported in the 2023 survey, except for junior ratings.

7. Supersized MSC well placed in new liner constellation. Mediterranean Shipping Co (MSC) is about to stretch its lead over its nearest rival to 2m teu with new data showing how well placed it has managed to become as a standalone operator following the shake-up of the liner trades this month.

DP World has marked a significant milestone in Egypt’s maritime and automotive sectors with its first-ever export shipment of passenger vehicles from Ain Sokhna Port.The vessel ULUSOY 5 departed for Jebel Ali, Dubai carrying 498 locally assembled Nissan Sunny vehicles, representing a key development for Egypt’s growing automotive industry. The company has announced plans to export up to 10,000 vehicles this year.
