1. Cyprus Castor Maritime acquires the majority stake in MPC Münchmeyer Petersen Capital AG. Castor Maritime Inc, a diversified global shipping company, announces that on December 12, 2024, it entered, through a wholly owned subsidiary, into an Share Purchase Agreement (“SPA”) with MPC Münchmeyer Petersen & Co. GmbH for the acquisition of 26,116,378 shares representing 74.09% of the shares of the Frankfurt-listed investment and asset manager MPC Münchmeyer Petersen Capital AG.

2. FuelEU Maritime Monitoring Requirements for ships starting 1 January 2025. From 1 January 2025, the monitoring requirements of FuelEU Maritime (Regulation (EU) 2023/1805) apply for ships of 5,000GT and above carrying cargo or passengers into, between and out of EEA ports (the EU plus Norway and Iceland).

3. EU targets Russia’s ghost fleet shipping oil in a new round of sanctions. European Union envoys have agreed a new raft of sanctions against Russia over its war on Ukraine, targeting in particular a vast shadow fleet of ships that Moscow is exploiting to skirt restrictions on transporting oil and fuel, the EU’s Hungarian presidency said on Wednesday.

4. HHLA and passify digitalise truck handling at Hamburg terminals. Since last week, truck access at Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG’s Container Terminal Altenwerder in Hamburg is now fully digitalised and managed via the passify app. With the launch of the app, HHLA is replacing the trucker card that had previously been in use at all of its Hamburg terminals, thus making truck handling more secure and efficient.

5. Crown Prince Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan inaugurates CMA terminals Khalifa Port, ushering in a New Era for Abu Dhabi as Global Trade Hub. H.H. Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council, has inaugurated CMA Terminals Khalifa Port in the presence of Rodolphe Saadé, Chairman and CEO of CMA CGM Group, the CMA Terminals Khalifa Port, a state of-the-art prestige AED 3.1 billion (USD 845 million) container terminal managed by a joint venture between the CMA CGM Group’s subsidiary CMA Terminals (70%) and Abu Dhabi Ports (30%).

6. Storms take out three Russian ships in a day. The Volgoneft-212, built in 1969, carrying some 4,300 tonnes of fuel oil, broke in half, while another elderly Russian coastal product tanker, Volgoneft-239, built in 1973, ran aground. One seafarer was reported dead from the tanker accidents with local authorities revealing an oil sheen has been detected in the area.

8. US Warship Makes Rare Visit To Cambodia Base At Center Of Feud. The US will send a warship to visit a naval base in Cambodia for the first time since the Southeast Asian nation reportedly signed a deal in 2019 that would allow China to establish a permanent foothold there.

9. Oil Spill Occurs At Shell Terminal In Nigeria. The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) said the spill which occurred on Saturday at the Bonny terminal has reached shoreline and that it was actively monitoring the situation.

Oil Spills Into Kerch Strait After Russian Tanker Breaks Apart in Storm A Russian oil tanker carrying thousands of tonnes of oil products split apart during a heavy storm on Sunday, spilling oil into the Kerch Strait, while another tanker was also in distress after sustaining damage, Russian officials said.At least one person was killed.
