1. InterManager urges shipping industry to share knowledge as it collates cases of seafarer criminalisation. InterManager, the international trade association for the ship management sector, is calling on shipping industry colleagues to contribute to a new campaign to highlight the issue of criminalisation of seafarers.

InterManager is concerned at the increasingly harsh treatment of ships’ crew in some parts of the world and is actively taking part in industry discussions to identify the depth of the problem and to address seafarers’ concerns.

3. LNG shipping capacity to decline by 2027, pushing up freight rates. The liquefied natural gas (LNG) shipping market is set to tighten capacity by the end of 2027, as ageing vessels are retired and fuel supplies grow, which in turn could push up freight rates, a senior executive from Adnoc Logistics and Services (L&S) has said.

5. NYK establishes offshore wind CTV joint venture. Japan’s Nippon Yusen Kaisha (NYK) has launched a crew transfer vessel shipmanagement joint venture for domestic offshore wind projects.

The jv company Japan Offshore Support (JOS), in which NYK will hold a 51% stake, has been established with local towing player Akita Eisen Kisen Kaisha, following a memorandum of understanding for CTV operations mainly in the waters off Akita prefecture in 2021.

6. Wallenius Wilhelmsen seals deal for Gothenburg terminal. Norwegian car carrier player Wallenius Wilhelmsen has reached an agreement to take over the terminal operations at Sweden’s Gothenburg port from February 2026.

The Oslo-listed company said its aim is to develop Scandinavia’s largest port for vehicles, acting as an integrated supply chain partner and transforming the terminal into a one-stop shop for all carriers and customers.

7. Gaza truce talks spur hope for resumption of Red Sea shipping. The head of shipping’s top lobby group has welcomed the “positive developments” witnessed in Qatar in recent days where ceasefire talks are underway between Israel and Hamas. 

Details are emerging of a potential ceasefire between Israel and Hamas after more than 400 days of war, a development that could usher in the end of the Red Sea shipping crisis, which has seen a huge swathe of the global merchant fleet avoid transits through the Middle East, propping up rates for the past year.

8. Navy Names Two New Ford-Class Aircraft Carriers After Presidents Clinton and Bush. Secretary of the Navy Carlos Del Toro revealed that two future Gerald R. Ford-class aircraft carriers will be named USS William J. Clinton (CVN 82) and USS George W. Bush (CVN 83), marking the first time either former president has been honored with a naval vessel namesake.
