2. Rijeka Gateway to be fully powered by renewable electricity. Rijeka Gateway, the largest project in the logistics sector in Croatia, has secured electricity from renewable energy sources for the operation of its container terminal. This will reduce CO2 and other harmful gas emissions significantly. The terminal in Rijeka – a joint venture between APM Terminals and ENNA Group – will be the most advanced in the Adriatic region, with most of its equipment electrified and largely remotely operated. When fully operational, the terminal will directly create 300 jobs for professionals of various profiles.

ClassNK awards notation for safe transportation of EVs to EASTERN CAR LINER’s car carrier “POSITIVE CHALLENGER”ClassNK granted its “AFVC notation to “POSITIVE CHALLENGER”, a car carrier operated by EASTERN CAR LINER,  and managed by ECL Shipmanagement Limited, for vessels equipped with additional firefighting measures for transporting electric vehicles .

4. Container market on the edge election uncertainty and global volatility to persist well into 2025. As we enter October 2024, the U.S. container trading market is experiencing heightened volatility due to several influencing factors. 5. Maersk names latest vessel of its dual-fuel methanol fleet “Alexandra Mærsk” in Felixstowe. A.P. Moller – Maersk has celebrated the naming of its latest dual-fuel methanol container vessel “Alexandra Maersk”. UK’s Maritime Minister Mike Kane, representatives of the IMO, customers and Maersk employees joined the festive event at the Port of Felixstowe, UK. Elaine Condon, Director of People & Culture at Primark, is the godmother of the ship, representing the close logistics and sustainability partnership between Maersk and its customer Primark.

6. Cargo Ship ‘Pan Viva’ Beset By Fierce Storm Near Alaska. The U.S. Coast Guard is responding to a large cargo ship beset by severe weather off the Alaskan coast.

The Pan Viva, a 738-foot Panama-flagged bulk carrier with 21 crew members aboard, is reported in distress 2.3 miles northeast of Unalaska.

7. Refueling Florida: Tankers Descend on Port Tampa Bay After Reopening. Port Tampa Bay, a critical energy gateway supplying nearly half of Florida’s fuel, has resumed vessel operations following the impact of Hurricane Milton. The port’s shipping channels officially reopened on Saturday, October 12, 2024, with vessel movements restricted to daylight hours and one-way travel.

8. Crisis Averted: ‘Annika’ Tanker Fire Doused After Baltic Sea Blaze. The fire aboard the German-flagged oil and chemical tanker Annika has been extinguished, authorities confirmed on Saturday.

The vessel caught fire in the Baltic Sea on Friday, triggering a large-scale maritime rescue and firefighting operation that concluded successfully early Saturday morning. The 73-meter-long tanker, carrying approximately 640 tons of oil, reportedly experienced an explosion while anchored northeast of Kühlungsborn, Germany, in the Bay of Mecklenburg.

National prosperity depends on what we do – that is on our productivity. A call to raise this may seem coercive – a suggestion that everybody should work harder. But as the population ages and the birthrate declines, this seems unlikely. There must be another way.
