1. LR demand for propeller retrofits surge four-fold but adoption remains limited. Demand for advanced propeller retrofits and energy saving devices (ESDs) has nearly quadrupled since 2020 as shipping owners and operators look to enhance energy efficiency to meet tightening emissions regulations.

2. BIMCO develop standard clause addressing USTR uncertainties. BIMCO, the world’s largest shipping association, has initiated the development of a standard industry clause with the aim to address contractual uncertainties arising from the United States Trade Representative’s  Notice of Actions to impose fees on Chinese-related ships calling US ports.

4. Euroseas announces three-year charter contract for its intermediate containership, M/V Emmanuel P. Euroseas, an owner and operator of container carrier vessels and provider of seaborne transportation for containerized cargoes, announced that it has secured a new time charter contract for its 4,250 teu intermediate containership, M/V Emmanuel P built in 2005, for a minimum period of 36 to a maximum period of 38 months, at the option of the charterer, at a gross daily rate of $38,000.

5. Chicago PE firm teams with Manish Singh to set up shipping tech acquisition fund. Chicago-based private equity firm GTCR has formed a partnership with well-known shipping investment consultant Manish Singh, understood to be worth hundreds of millions of dollars, to acquire maritime tech companies.Singh will serve as CEO of the newly formed Maris Investments, which has also made an investment alongside GTCR.

6. Nova Scotia premier pitches 40GW offshore wind energy plan. The Canadian province of Nova Scotia has proposed a major offshore wind project with the end goal of constructing enough turbines to generate 40GW of electricity over the next decade.The premier of Nova Scotia, Tim Houston, outlined the plan, which would, if executed, cover around 27% of Canada’s current electricity demand.

7. Diana Shipping charters out panamax to Stone Shipping. Greek bulker owner Diana Shipping has entered into a time charter contract with Stone Shipping for one of its panamax vessels.The company hired the 2014-built, 77,529 dwt ice-class bulker Atalandi. The gross charter rate is $9,000 per day for the 35 days of the charter period and $10,100 per day for the balance period of the time charter.

8. Yacht Builder To The World’s Super-Rich Caught Up In Spy Claims. In early April 2024, Xu Xinyu, an executive director at Ferretti SpA, noticed an SUV and two strange men lingering outside the elegant 18th century palace that houses the Italian luxury yacht maker’s Milan offices. On other days, during visits to the Palazzo Parigi Hotel and the Mandarin Oriental, Xu noticed the same individuals again.

9. Saving the ocean is a test of multilateralism: IMO Secretary-General. Ahead of World Oceans Day (8 June), the Secretary-General of the IMO, Mr. Arsenio Dominguez, called on the international community to demonstrate the “power of multilateralism” by renewing global commitments and actions to protect the ocean.

10. Baltic Hub Inaugurates T3 Terminal in Gdansk. Baltic Hub has officially inaugurated its new T3 terminal in Gdańsk, marking a significant milestone in Poland’s maritime development and reinforcing its position within the global supply chain. The opening ceremony was attended by government officials, local authorities and industry leaders, celebrating this major port investment in the Baltic Sea region.
