1. Port of Piraeus publication of the 2024 sustainability report. 2. Women in Maritime Survey 2024 offers fresh wake-up call on gender diversity. The second IMO–WISTA report on gender diversity in shipping reveals that women continue to face significant discrimination in the maritime workplace despite progress in certain areas.

As part of a broader cooperation between the International Maritime Organization and Women’s International Shipping & Trading Association (WISTA), the IMO–WISTA Women in Maritime Survey 2024 presents data on the proportion of women working in the sector from member states and the private sector. It offers new insights following an inaugural survey, conducted in 2021.

3. How will the wet season affect capesize demand from West Africa? As reported in our last insight on the topic, bauxite exports from Guinea have performed remarkably well so far in 2025, up 37% from last year and 56% from 2023. Chinese demand for the ore to feed its growing aluminium need has been the strongest driver, and over the past decade, Chinese involvement in the country’s bauxite sector has continued to evolve and grow.

5. Heidmar enters ownership space with first boxship acquisition. Athens-based pool operator and shipmanager Heidmar has announced its first-ever vessel acquisition, marking a strategic shift in the Nasdaq-listed company’s evolution from pure-play management to asset-backed operations.

The Pankaj Khanna-led outfit has struck a deal to buy the 2008-built 1,702 teu feeder containership A Obelix for $25.25m.

6. Danes press ahead with project to ship CO2 in containers. Danish firm DecarbonICE is looking to develop a full CO2 transport value chain with the gas in solid form, otherwise known as dry ice.The company wants to show the benefits of this kind of transfer compared to transporting CO2 in liquid form in pressurised cryogenic tanks.

7. McDermott picks up Brazilian contract. Houston-based McDermott has secured an offshore transportation and installation contract from BRAVA Energia for subsea work at two major deepwater developments in Brazil.The scope covers transportation and installation of flexible flowlines, umbilicals, and associated subsea equipment for four new wells—two each at the Papa-Terra field in the Campos Basin and the Atlanta field in the Santos Basin’s Block BS-4.

8. Indian Seafarers Freed After Months of Detention at Yemen’s Ras Isa Port. India says it has secured the release of more than 150 seafarers who were stranded at Yemen’s Ras Isa Port, according to the Directorate General of Shipping. All 11 vessels detained at the port have now departed, with the final ship, MT GAZ GMS, sailing on June 29th.

9. Two Injured, Two Missing in New Ship Attack Near Yemen’s Hodeidah, Ambrey Says. Two crew were injured and two others missing on a Liberia-flagged bulk carrier that was attacked with skiffs and drones 49 nautical miles southwest of Yemen’s Red Sea port of Hodeidah, British maritime security firm Ambrey said on Monday.Ambrey said the vessel’s engines had reportedly been disabled and it had started to drift. It did not identify the ship.

10. Unmanned Saildrones Track Russian ‘Shadow Fleet’ During NATO Baltic Sea Operations. Saildrone, a leading maritime autonomy company, has demonstrated its advanced surveillance capabilities by successfully identifying Russian “shadow fleet” vessels during recent NATO operations in the Baltic Sea.
