1. Chowgule & Co. partners with Lloyd’s Register to develop first-ever ESG report and strategy. Chowgule & Co., a leading shipbuilding and engineering conglomerate in India, is partnering with Lloyd’s Register (LR) to develop its first Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) report and wider group ESG strategy.  

Scheduled for release this month, the report will leverage 2023 operational data across Chowgule’s four Indian shipyards (three owned and one leased) as well as its EPC division.

3. Euroseas announces Time Charter for its older containership, M/V Aegean Express, and Spin- off of its older three vessels into a separate company. Time Charter for its Older Containership, M/V Aegean Express

Euroseas announced today a new charter for its older and smaller feeder containership, M/V Aegean Express. Specifically, the charter of M/V Aegean Express has been extended in direct continuation of its existing charter for a minimum period of ten months and a maximum period of twelve months at a rate of $16,700 per day.

4. 20 months’ pay in year-end bonus for staff at Taiwan shipping giant Evergreen. A Taiwanese company that is known for giving employees big bonuses has done it yet again.

Shipping giant Evergreen announced on Dec 31 that its employees would get a year-end bonus averaging 20 months of their salary, according to Taiwanese media outlets.

5. Navigator snaps up three ethylene carriers. The world’s top player in the handysize LPG carrier segment is buying the German-built 17,000 cu m trio from an unnamed seller for $83.9m. The vessels were not named, but S&P databases show three ships with similar descriptions: the 2009-built Gaschem Pacific and the 2010-built Gaschem Adriatic and Gaschem Antarctic sold in December to undisclosed buyers.

6. Tanjung Offshore wins Carigali Hess contract. Malaysian offshore services player Tanjung Offshore, part of T7 Global, has secured a long-term contract from Carigali Hess to carry out maintenance, construction and modification works offshore Malaysia.

The contract, which kicks in on January 15, has a term of three years, with an option to extend for another two years.

7. ASCO scores $88m contract in Norway. Aberdeen-based energy logistics group, ASCO, has won a contract from Aker BP in Tananger, Sandnessjøen, and Farsund in Norway.The deal covers base and logistics services as well as continued services in warehouse management, load carriers, waste services, and personnel leasing for logistics and helicopter coordination.

8. China’s Biggest Shipping Line Added to US Military Blacklist. The US has blacklisted China’s largest shipping line and two shipbuilders over alleged links with the People’s Liberation Army, as Washington turns its attention to the country’s massive maritime sector.

10. MOL introduces special incentive program for employee shareholding plan. Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, announced that it has decided to introduce a special incentive program to provide group employees with opportunities to acquire the company’s shares. This is aimed at enhancing MOL Group employees’ sense of participation in management and engagement by supporting the medium- to long-term asset formation.

Under the program, special incentive payment for purchasing shares of MOL common share will be granted through the “MOL Employee Shareholding Association” to the members of the association.
