1. How Baltic Exchange helped one member recover more than US$50,000 with just one email. When a long-standing Baltic Exchange panelist member found themselves chasing an unpaid commission of more than US$50,000, months of reminders and follow-ups had brought no result. The broker had acted in good faith on a charter party agreement, only to see the owner fix the business and withhold the payment that was rightfully due. Frustrated and out of options, the member contacted Baltic Exchange’s Dispute Resolution Service. Within 10 days, the full amount was in their account.

2. BIMCO Shipping Number of the Week. Second-hand container ship prices jump 17% YoY despite weaker freight rate

“Despite significantly weaker freight rates, the average price for five-year-old container ships has increased 17% year-on-year and 6% since the beginning of 2025,” says Niels Rasmussen, Chief Shipping Analyst at BIMCO.

3. Sanctioned Tankers ship 36% of Russian oil. Sanctioned tankers lifted 36% of all oil shipped from Russia in July, underscoring the sustained pressure Western regulators have placed on the dark fleet over most of 2025.Alongside volumes loaded on sanctioned tankers, Windward analysis of monthly tanker activity shows that 30% of Russia-origin crude and refined products were shipped on Greek-owned vessels.

6. Jinhui continues supramax selloff. Oslo-listed Jinhui Shipping and Transportation has struck a deal to sell the 2008-built supramax bulker Jin Rong for $11.93m, continuing its clear-out of older tonnage.The 58,700 dwt vessel, built at Tsuneishi Cebu in the Philippines, is heading to Hong Kong-registered Liuliu Shun Shipping.

7. US visa crackdown creates turmoil for shipmanagers. Shipmanagers are warning of mounting operational chaos as fresh US visa restrictions begin to bite, Splash has learned.

Multiple sources at leading shipmanagement companies confirm growing problems with obtaining valid US visas for crewmembers. The issues stem from a raft of executive orders signed by the current US president, which have shifted the long-established practice of multiple-entry seafarer visas toward single-entry permits.

Second Known Tanker Carrying Sanctioned Russian Arctic LNG Berths In China.  Another tanker carrying liquefied natural gas from Russia’s sanctioned Arctic LNG 2 project has docked in a Chinese port, ship-tracking data showed, days after Russian President Vladimir Putin met China’s leader Xi Jinping in Beijing.

10. China Condemns Sailing Of Canadian, Australian Warships In Taiwan Strait. China’s military on Saturday said its forces had followed and warned a Canadian and an Australian warship, which were sailing through the sensitive Taiwan Strait, in a move it condemned as a “provocation.”The People’s Liberation Army’s Eastern Theatre Command said the ships, the Canadian frigate Ville de Quebec and the Australian guided-missile destroyer Brisbane, were engaged in “trouble making and provocation.”
