1. Suez Canal’s revenues down 9 bln USD over 2 yrs amid regional tensions says the Egyptian president. The revenues of the Suez Canal, a major source of foreign currency for Egypt, have dropped by some 9 billion U.S. dollars over the past two years due to a challenging regional environment, Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi said.

3. Maersk rolls out efficiency programme for its time-chartered fleet. In a large-scale programme involving 50 different shipowners, A.P. Moller – Maersk (Maersk) is – in close collaboration with the owners – retrofitting around 200 vessels in its time-chartered fleet. The main aim of the programme is to reduce the slot cost by improving fuel efficiency and cargo-carrying capacity leading to a decrease in both cost and greenhouse gas emissions.

4. World’s first hydrogen-powered bulk carriers to feature Swedish fuel cells. PowerCell, a Swedish supplier of fuel cells for the marine market, has secured a contract worth just over SEK40m ($4.25m) to supply the fuel cell systems for two hydrogen-powered bulk carriers.

5. Shadow tanker accused of being Europe’s drone mothership. The Boracay, an 18-year-old Russian-linked tanker seized by French commandos off Brest this week, has been placed at the scene of up to nine drone incidents across northern Europe, according to a Daily Telegraph analysis of AIS tracking. The newspaper reports the vessel was within striking distance of Copenhagen, Kiel and multiple Danish airports when mysterious drone swarms forced shutdowns in late September.

6. Finnish court drops Baltic subsea cable case against Eagle S crew. A Finnish district court has dismissed charges against the captain and two officers of the Eagle S tanker, ruling that Finland has no jurisdiction to prosecute over the damage of critical subsea infrastructure in the Baltic Sea last year.

7. Port of Los Angeles Unveils Plan for First New Container Terminal in a Generation. The Port of Los Angeles has issued a request for proposal for the pre-development of Pier 500, a new marine container terminal that would be the first built at the port in a generation.As the Western Hemisphere’s busiest container port, this expansion represents a significant investment in U.S. maritime infrastructure. 8. Global steel output up marginally in August. 

Global steel production increased by 0.3 per cent to 145.3 million tonnes (mt) in August 2025 compared with the 144.8 mt a year ago.

According to the World Steel Association (worldsteel), the output in the top producer, China, was down 0.7 per cent at 77.4 mt. Meanwhile, India produced 14.1 mt of steel—an increase of 13.2 per cent from the year-ago period. In July 2025, it was 150.1 mt.

9. Ocean Network Express and QTerminals Kramer Rotterdam Partner to Decarbonise Port Operations in Rotterdam. QTerminals Kramer Rotterdam (QTKR) and Ocean Network Express (Europe) (ONE) have reduced emissions by as much as 500 tonnes of CO₂ in just six months by implementing a biofuel scheme using HVO100, a sustainable biofuel made from renewable raw materials for port shunting operations.

10. HD Hyundai’s VesselWise Gets AiP. 

ABS is working with HD Hyundai to autonomise functions onboard vessels step-by-step, starting with navigation systems and moving on to the engine room. ABS has granted approval in principle (AiP) for a next-generation autonomous technology, VesselWise, for optimising propulsion to improve fuel efficiency and enhance operational stability.
