2. Trading house STX Group buys Marine Olie for biofuels business growth. Dutch environmental commodity trader STX Group has acquired compatriot trader of waste-based advanced feedstocks Marine Olie for an undisclosed sum.The Amsterdam-based firm said the move would bolster its position in the biofuels value chain and support the company’s aim of becoming a globally leading trader in the integrated feedstocks-to-fuels-to-ticket markets.

3. BIMCO unpacks new FuelEU Maritime clause. On January 1, the FuelEU Maritime regulation will come into force. 4. Coast Guard Suspends Search for Five Missing After Fishing Vessel Capsizes in Alaska. The U.S. Coast Guard has suspended its extensive 24-hour search for five missing people after their vessel, the Wind Walker, capsized near Couverden Point, Alaska.

“We stand in sorrow and solidarity with the friends and family of the people we were not able to find over the past 24 hours,” said Chief Warrant Officer James Koon, search and rescue mission coordinator at Coast Guard Sector Southeast Alaska.

6. Philippines Sends Ships to Reef After China ‘Harassment’The Philippines said a Chinese Navy chopper harassed Filipino fishing boats at a disputed South China Sea reef, showing lingering tensions in the key waterway.

The Philippine Coast Guard sent two ships to Iroquois Reef to ensure the fishermen’s safety after receiving footage of the encounter, according to spokesman Jay Tarriela. He posted images on X which he said “captured the harassment of Filipino fishing vessels” by a People’s Liberation Army Navy helicopter.

8. Falling average speeds and utilisation rates underscore LNG vessel oversupply, bringing freight prices to atypical lows. LNG freight prices have been trending lower this year as strong fleet growth outpaced liquefaction capacity additions. 52 newbuild carriers joined the fleet year to date, nearly double the number of deliveries in the same period last year. In contrast, new liquefaction capacity has been limited, with only 5.8 mtpa of additions in 2024.
