1. Cyprus Shipping Chamber supports EU Shipowners and Transport & Environment call for prioritisation of clean fuel production in upcoming EU Clean Industrial Deal. The Cyprus Shipping Chamber expresses its strong support to the joint statement by the European Community Shipowners’ Associations (ECSA) and the European green transport advocacy group Transport & Environment (T&E), which calls on EU policymakers to prioritise clean fuel production as a crucial component of the upcoming Clean Industrial Deal and emphasises the urgent need for scaled-up investments and a comprehensive regulatory framework to drive the maritime sector’s energy transition.

2. Super Micro Computer says Ernst & Young resigns as auditor, shares tank. Super Micro Computer), opens new tab said on Wednesday Ernst & Young had resigned as its auditor, sending its shares tumbling more than 30% and deepening investor worries about accounting practices at the artificial intelligence server maker.
The company in late August delayed the filing of its annual report, citing a need to assess “its internal controls over financial reporting”, after Hindenburg Research disclosed a short position and made claims of “accounting manipulation”.

3. A growing number of companies in the Port of Riga are producing and using green energy. “WT Terminal”, a company operating in the Port of Riga, has built and commissioned a solar panel park that will replace part of the company’s electricity needs with green energy. This is the third solar panel park operating in the Port of Riga, and it is planned to open new green energy plants in several other port companies. Meanwhile one of the largest solar panel parks in the Baltics is under construction in the Spilve Meadows area of the Port of Riga. This solar park will be able to generate around 100,000 MWh of green electricity per year.

4. Maersk and Danone partner to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions of seaborne logistics with ECO delivery ocean. Maersk is partnering with Danone, one of the world’s leading food and beverages companies, to reduce its logistics greenhouse gas  emissions by using Maersk ECO Delivery Ocean, a product based on reduced GHG emission fuels like bio-diesel or bio-methanol which are produced solely from waste feedstocks. These fuels are then used on vessels across the Maersk fleet. With the applied version of ECO Delivery Ocean by Danone the GHG emissions are reduced by more than 40% compared to conventional fossil fuels.

5. Japanese Consortium produces design concept for eco-friendly VLCC. Idemitsu Tanker  IINO Kaiun Kaisha, , Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha , and Nihon Shipyard  are pleased to announce that the consortium the companies established on 26 January 2024  for the joint research and development of an eco-friendly very large crude oil carrier has produced a design concept for Japan’s first Malacca Max type VLCC to use methanol as alternative fuel (hereafter, the “Vessel”).

6. RWE gets final clearance to build Denmark’s largest offshore wind farm. The Danish Energy Agency has granted German utility RWE the offshore construction permit for the Thor offshore wind farm, Denmark’s largest to date.RWE now has all permits in place to start offshore construction work in spring 2025. With a planned capacity of more than 1,000MW, Thor will be able to produce enough green electricity to supply the equivalent of more than 1m Danish households.

7. Canada faces port strikes on east and west coasts. Canada is facing the real threat of strikes on both its west and east coasts. 
Employers at British Columbia’s ports say they have received 72-hour strike notice from the union representing about 700 foremen in an ongoing labour dispute.

8. Expansion plans laid out for HD Hyundai Vietnam Shipbuilding. HD Hyundai Vietnam Shipbuilding will expand capacity to build 15 ships a year up from the current maximum of 12 with the company’s Korean parent revealing plans to potentially expand further to 23 ships a year by 2030.

9. Shipbuilding Giant’s Revenue Hit By US Navy Uncertainty. The largest U.S. military shipbuilder Huntington Ingalls $HII on Thursday cut its 2024 shipbuilding revenue due to uncertainty in navy agreements, supply chain issues and labor shortages, sending its shares down.

10. Vancouver Port Faces Lockout Showdown: Grain Exports Safe, But Trade Tensions Rise. Port of Vancouver foremen will be locked out on Monday unless they scrap a proposed strike, employers at Canada’s biggest port said on Friday, but bulk grain handling would not be affected.
