2. US targets Houthi and Hezbollah-linked shipping network. The US has imposed further sanctions aimed at shipping operations linked to Houthi and Hezbollah trade networks. The US Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) said it targeted several companies, individuals and vessels accused of being involved in the shipment of Iranian commodities to Yemen and the United Arab Emirates on behalf of Houthi financial facilitator Sa’id al-Jamal and for facilitating Hezbollah shipments of LPG.

3. ‘Vacuum’ of VLOC deliveries expected to prop up rates for dry bulk’s biggest ships. There is currently a “vacuum” of very large ore carrier (VLOC) deliveries which could see freight rates for this largest dry bulk category jump in the months ahead, new analysis from broker BRS suggests. Cargoes carried by VLOCs, which BRS defines as above 220,000 dwt, have been steadily rising by 2.2% in recent years, going from 281m in 2015 to 335m last year.

4. Meyer Werft looks for government lifeline. 5. Shell contracts emissions capture firm in Los Angeles. Giant black pipes will be inserted into the funnels of tankers calling at Shell’s Mormon Island Terminal in the Port of Los Angeles from next year. STAX Engineering, a pioneer in maritime emissions capture and control, has entered into a five-year agreement with Shell, coinciding with new California Air Resources Board (CARB) emissions regulations for tanker vessels kicking in from the start of next year.

6. Novatek Set To Dock Second LNG Unit At Sanctioned Arctic Plant. Russian gas producer Novatek PJSC seems to be pushing ahead with an expansion project at its Arctic LNG 2 plant despite Western energy sanctions. 7. Oil Spill Reported Off Venezuela’s Caribbean Coast. An oil spill, which appeared to originate from Venezuela’s El Palito refinery several days ago, has contaminated a bay off the country’s north-central coast in the Caribbean Sea, five sources told Reuters on Saturday. Biologist Eduardo Klein posted satellite images on X that he said showed an oil slick of about 225 square kilometers (87 square miles) in the Golfe Triste and completely covering Morrocoy National Park, known for beaches lined with palm trees and mangroves.
