3. Indian Register of Shipping hosts 50-year commemorative event featuring chief of naval staff, Adm Dinesh K Tripathi. On the eve of India’s Independence Day, the Indian Register of Shipping hosted the first of a series of commemorative events to celebrate its Golden Jubilee, marking 50 years of rendering excellent service to the maritime industry. The event, held on 14th August 2024 at New Delhi, was graced by the presence of Chief of the Naval Staff, Adm. Dinesh K Tripathi, PVSM, AVSM, NM, as Chief Guest.

A series of new recom­men­da­tions aim to ensure a healthier, safer, and psy­cho­lo­gi­cal­ly secure working environment onboard Danish-flagged ships. 5. Bulk carrier crew quarantined in Argentina over suspected mpox case. Argentine authorities have quarantined a dry bulk vessel in the Parana River over a suspected case of mpox onboard.The ship was near the port of Rosario when it alerted authorities that “one of its crew members of Indian nationality showed cyst-like skin lesions predominantly on the chest and face,” the health ministry said in a statement.

6. Third Delta Tankers vessel comes under fire from the Houthis. Greece’s Delta Tankers’ refusal to avoid the Red Sea has seen a third ship in its fleet come under attack today, the first confirmed Houthi strikes in eight days.
According to security firm Vanguard, the tanker Sounion, owned and managed by Delta Tankers, was attacked 77 nautical miles west of Hodeidah, Yemen, in the early hours of the morning. The vessel is now disabled, reporting it is not under command.

7. Bahri splashes $1bn on nine Marinakis VLCCs. Saudi Arabia’s flagship line Bahri has snapped up nine very large crude carriers from Evangelos Marinakis-controlled Capital Maritime & Trading.The company said in a Tadawul filing it would be paying about $1bn in total for the scrubber-fitted ships delivering by the end of the first quarter of 2025. The deal will be financed by bank borrowings and cash on hand.

8. Economou takes Performace Shipping case to the Marshall Islands after US dismissal. George Economou has launched a lawsuit in the high court of the Marshall Islands against directors and insiders of US-listed tanker owner Performance Shipping after his case was dismissed in the US.Last October, the Greek shipping magnate, who owns more than 100 vessels, sued Performance’s top executives in the New York Supreme Court, claiming they breached their fiduciary duties to shareholders in dominating voting control of the company through a dual-class ownership structure.

9. First-of-its-Kind Floating Offshore Wind Energy Lease Signed in Maine. The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) has executed the first U.S. floating offshore wind energy research lease, covering nearly 15,000 acres off the coast of Maine.
The groundbreaking lease is situated 28 nautical miles off the coast of Maine on the U.S. Outer Continental Shelf and is poised to host up to 12 floating offshore wind turbines, with a potential to generate 144 megawatts of renewable energy.

10. Adani Krishnapatnam Port Launches Advanced Cargo Handling System.
