1. The past and present of the Port of València come together in the photographic exhibition Viure el Port. History, identity and culture, from both our past and our present, united by a place: the Port of València. The character and life of the city’s seafaring neighbourhoods, where work and leisure intertwine and the solemnity of their traditions with popular festivities are the rich heritage that nourishes the exhibition Viure el Port, which is open to the public free of charge in the Clock Building until 3 November.

2. HH-WIN approved as part of the Hydrogen Core Network. Important decision by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs in Berlin and the Federal Network Agency in Bonn: the Hamburg Hydrogen Industry Network ‘HH-WIN’ will become part of the nationwide, almost 10,000-kilometre-long hydrogen core network. This means that Hamburg’s industry will be able to benefit from a standardised hydrogen network fee in the future.

3. Strong container throughput drives Port of Antwerp-Bruges growth despite challenging market conditions. After nine months, Port of Antwerp-Bruges saw a total throughput of 210.5 million tonnes, an increase of 3% compared to the same period last year and a stabilisation in comparison to the second quarter of 2024. Demand for container transport remains strong, while the ongoing geopolitical and economic instability impacts other cargo types. Despite these challenges, the port continues to invest in sustainable and innovative projects to support energy transition and industrial growth.

4. CMA CGM Group and SUEZ sign a memorandum of understanding to develop the production of biomethane in Europe and the low-carbon transition of maritime transport.  CMA CGM Group, a global player in maritime, land, air and logistics solutions, and SUEZ, a world leader in circular waste management solutions, signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on 18 October. The aim of this collaboration between two complementary players is to establish a long-term industrial partnership on biomethane, a renewable fuel produced through waste recovery, to help decarbonise shipping in Europe.

5. South Korean shipbuilder Hanwha Ocean joins GCMD as Strategic Partner. The Global Centre for Maritime Decarbonisation (GCMD) and Hanwha Ocean today announced a five-year strategic partnership to advance maritime decarbonisation in the areas of alternative low-/zero carbon fuels, energy efficiency technologies, and onboard carbon capture.

6. Horizon Tankers takes option on MR newbuild brace. Greece’s Horizon Tankers has upped its MR orderbook adding two more newbuilds in China.
The Anthony Comninos-led owner has exercised an option for 50,000 dwt chemical/product carriers at Zhoushan Changhong International Shipyard, with deliveries set between 2026 and 2027.

7. Sensor installed to monitor ship emissions off Belgium. Ships passing through one of Europe’s busiest lanes will need to make sure they are compliant with all environmental regulations.
A sensor has been installed at the Belgian port of Zeebrugge to monitor how many and which substances passing ships through the North Sea emission controls area (ECA) emit.
