InterManager, the international trade association for the ship management sector, has collaborated with The Nautical Institute and IMarEST to gain up to date information on the risks faced by workers in enclosed spaces on ships.

2. BSM champions diversity at sea with successful pilot project. After a 10-month project phase, Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement has successfully completed the Diversity@Sea project, a global initiative by the ‘All Aboard Alliance’ aimed at fostering gender and cultural diversity within the maritime industry. As part of this programme, four female seafarers from different countries were part of the multinational crew on BSM-managed container vessel, “Charlotte Schulte”.

3. Clean Arctic Alliance reaction to Copernicus Global Sea Ice Loss report. Responding to reports from EU’s Copernicus Climate Change Service that global sea ice cover reached a record low in February, the Clean Arctic Alliance called on the International Maritime Organization and the shipping sector to slash black carbon emissions from shipping in the Arctic region.

4. New green maritime fuels demonstrated in the Port of Southampton. Fortescue Green Pioneer completed a groundbreaking demonstration of ammonia fuel usage in the Port of Southampton, marking a first for the UK and Europe. The demonstration highlighted the vessel’s operational safety, ensured regulatory compliance, and provided training for the crew on how to operate an ammonia-fuelled vessel.

5. Containership likely to sink after North Sea collision. The Solong containership involved in Monday’s collision in the UK North Sea is unlikely to remain afloat, British maritime minister Mike Kane has said.
“Modelling suggests that should Solong remain afloat, it will remain clear of land for the next few hours. The assessment of HM Coastguard is, however, that it is unlikely the vessel will remain afloat,” Kane told parliament, adding also that the vessel’s missing crewmember was unlikely to be found and presumed deceased.

6. Carlos Pena takes over from John Michael Radziwill as CEO of C Transport Maritime. John Michael Radziwill (pictured right) is shuffling the board at Monaco’s C Transport Maritime, remaining as chairman with key lieutenant Carlos Pena (pictured left) taking over as CEO of the dry bulk concern.CTM, which turned 20 last October, is best known for its commercial management while Radziwill and his team have also been shipowners for much of the past decade. CTM has pools focused on supramaxes, panamaxes, and capesizes.

The 59-year-old Master of a German-owned containership has been arrested on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter after a collision between a US military-chartered tanker off England’s East Yorkshire coast that has left one crew member missing and both vessels on fire.
