1. V. secures full management contract with International Seaways for six dual-fuel (LNG) ready newbuild tankers. V., the global ship manager and marine services provider, has been awarded the full technical and crew management of six scrubber-fitted, dual-fuel (LNG) ready LR1 vessels by International Seaways, Inc.

The contract further strengthens V.’s long-standing partnership with INSW in which V.Ships UK already manages 44 vessels in the INSW fleet, spanning VLCCs, Suezmax, Aframax, Panamax (LR1) and MR vessels.

3. Shipowners and recyclers ask Basel COP for removal of obstacles to safer ship recycling. BIMCO has drafted a paper to submit to the Conference of the Parties to the Basel Convention , asking for more clarity and for obstacles to be removed as the Hong Kong Convention enters into force in two months.

4. ILO delivers on key worker rights and fair treatment for seafarers. The fifth meeting of the Special Tripartite Committee of the MLC concluded last week with some hard-fought achievements for seafarers, led in the negotiations by ITF Seafarers’ Section Vice Chair, Mark Dickinson.

Noteworthy amongst the amendments adopted was the designation and recognition of seafarers as key workers “… to facilitate their safe movement when travelling in connection with their employment or work, including, but not limited to, access to shore leave, repatriation, crew changes and medical care ashore.”

5. Two crewmen injured as OSV hits wind turbine in Dutch North Sea. The Royal Dutch Sea Rescue Society (KNRM) has stated that it evacuated two injured crewmen from an OSV that hit the base of an offshore wind turbine in the North Sea.

The 1990-built Glomar Venture, owned by the Dutch offshore support vessel player Glomar, made a call for medical evacuation around 7 am local time on Easter Sunday.

With IMO agreeing to a net-zero framework to 2050 to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from international shipping at MEPC 83, shipowners can be confident in investing in LNG dual-fuel tonnage, according to SEA-LNG chief operating officer, Steve Esau.

7. Ultratug supports crane delivery at new South American container terminal. A fleet of Ultratug vessels assisted the first vessel to visit the Puerto Antioquia terminal in April 2025, supporting the arrival of new cranes for unloading and loading containers.

The Chilean tug owner said its tugboats Mrs Doroty and Gaira assisted the heavy-transport ship with its strategically important cargo into Puerto Antioquia, which is on the Caribbean coast in northwest Colombia.

8. ScottishPower signs vessel agreements with Norfolk marine companies. The green energy company, part of the Iberdrola Group, has signed charter agreements worth more than £16M (US$21M) in total with Caister-based NR Marine Services and Great Yarmouth-based OEG for the provision of vessels to support the construction of its East Anglia Three offshore windfarm.
