2. Syria and UAE’s DP World ink $800m deal for port development. The Syrian government and DP World signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) worth $800 million to develop Syria’s port of Tartous, Syrian state news agency SANA said, after the lifting of US sanctions cleared the way for the deal, Reuters reports.

3. Suez Canal Authority urges Maersk to resume transits amid improved Red Sea security. Osama Rabie, Chairperson of the Suez Canal Authority (SCA), met on Wednesday with a senior delegation from A.P. Moller–Maersk Group to explore opportunities for renewed cooperation and a potential resumption of canal transits. The meeting, held at the SCA headquarters in Ismailia, came as part of Maersk’s official visit to Egypt.

4. Singapore’s Container throughput up 6.1% in 2025 despite uncertainty over global tariffs. Singapore’s port handled 6.1 per cent more containers in the first four months of 2025 than in the same period in 2024, despite disruptions to supply chains caused by tariffs imposed by the United States.

6. Subsea 7 hot streak continues with West Africa contract. Offshore engineering and services player Subsea 7 has announced a third contract award in as many days, this time in West Africa.Under the contract, Subsea7 will be responsible for transporting and installing flexible pipelines, umbilicals, and associated subsea components for the connection of an FPSO vessel, as well as the pre-laying activities for an upcoming drilling campaign.

8. EU Sanctions Three MOL Gas Carriers Associated With Russia’s Yamal LNG. In a surprise move the European Union significantly tightened its sanctions against Russia’s liquefied natural gas sector. Brussels’ 17th sanctions package announced yesterday includes three newbuild LNG carriers managed by Japanese Mitsui OSK Lines Ltd. (MOL) under charter with Russian energy projects.
