4. MOL Group-managed vessels recognised for excellence in weather observation and reporting for 10th consecutive year. Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, announced that two vessels managed by its group company MOL Ship Management  and MOL LNG Transport , received the Minister Award from Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism and the Director-General Award from the Japan Meteorological Agency  for their significant contribution to the development of meteorological service by observing and reporting weather and sea conditions for 10 consecutive years.

5. Historic surge on the transpacific buoys liner profits. Drewry’s weekly World Container Index (WCI) increased 41% to $3,527 per feu yesterday, the second highest leap dollars-wise since the index was created, with the busy transpacific leading the way once again amid a brief trade detente between the world’s two largest economies, the US and China. Rival spot index, the Shanghai Container Freight Index, published today, increased a more moderate 8% to 2240.35 points.

6. Red Sea shipping rebounds 60% as Houthi attacks decline. The volume of ship traffic in the Red Sea has increased by 60% since August 2024, now reaching 36 to 37 ships per day. Despite the rebound, volumes remain well below pre-crisis levels, according to Rear Admiral Vasileios Gryparis, commander of the EU’s Aspides naval mission.

7. Salvors unable to reach fire-stricken Morning Midas until Monday. Efforts to bring the fire-stricken Morning Midas under control are facing a significant delay, with salvage teams not expected to reach the drifting vessel until Monday, nearly a full week after the crew abandoned ship.

10. Crew Member Dies in Accident Aboard Tidewater Supply Vessel Off U.S. East Coast. A crew member has died following a maritime incident aboard the US-flagged Tidewater vessel POLARIS on June 2, while conducting operations in the Atlantic Ocean.Tidewater confirmed the fatality in a statement, noting that emergency response procedures were immediately initiated. Despite the efforts of crew members and emergency response agencies, the crew member could not be saved.
