1. Columbia Group backs Turkey as a leader in global shipping. 

Columbia Group CEO, Mark O’Neil, has paid tribute to Turkey’s ‘resilient and innovative’ maritime industry, calling it as one of the leaders among global shipping nations and the ideal partner for Columbia’s next stage of growth.Speaking at an industry event in Istanbul to mark Columbia’s expanding presence in the region, Mr O’Neil (pictured) praised Turkish shipowners, shipyards, and the broader maritime industry for their tenacity and transformation over the past two decades.

2. International Salvage Union publishes 2024 industry statistics showing stabilisation of sector. The ISU has published its annual statistics for 2024. They are the only published measure of the state of the industry but do not include information from non-ISU members.

3. CSC honours teachers participating in the “Adopt a Ship” Educational Programme for the 2024-2025 Academic Year. The Cyprus Shipping Chamber successfully held its annual Award Ceremony for the “Adopt a Ship” Educational Programme, for the academic year 2024-2025.

During the ceremony, addresses were delivered by the Shipping Deputy Minister, Mrs. Marina Hadjimanolis, Mr. Andreas Hadjipetrou, Member of the Chamber’s Board of Directors and Mr. Nicolas Asimenos, Chairman of the Chamber’s Educational Activities Committee.

7. Ukraine Calls For EU Sanctions On Import Of ‘Stolen Grain’. Ukraine plans to ask the European Union to sanction Bangladeshi entities it says are importing wheat taken from Ukrainian territories occupied by Russia, after its warnings to Dhaka failed to stop the trade, a top Ukrainian diplomat in South Asia said.

8. Climate TRACE releases April 2025 Emissions Data. Thursday, June 26, 2025 – Today, Climate TRACE reported that global greenhouse gas emissions for the month of April 2025 totaled 5.16 billion tonnes CO2e. This represents an increase of 0.71% vs. April 2024. Total global year-to-date emissions total 20.70 billion tonnes CO2e. This is 0.20% lower than the previous year-to-date total. Global methane emissions in April were 31.94 million tonnes CH4, an increase of 0.01% vs. April 2024.

9. Fugro scores $340m Petrobras deal. Dutch contractor Fugro has emerged as the successful bidder in four multi-year tenders from Petrobras for the inspection and monitoring of subsea infrastructure in Brazil.

The contracts, worth about $340m, should start in the fourth quarter of 2025 and span four years with potential one-year extensions.

10. Seacon tackles shipping talent gap with electric training boxship order. In a move to bridge the shipping talent gap and advance green maritime education, China’s Seacon Shipping has signed a contract with Fujian Mawei Shipbuilding for the construction of what is being hailed as the world’s first teaching electric containership.
