1. Shipping’s new net zero framework Where to next. Over the last couple of years, the industry has been undertaking preparatory work to meet the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) 2023 Revised GHG Strategy. The IMO reached another milestone this April, agreeing to a Net Zero Framework that outlines the regulations that will drive the industry’s decarbonisation efforts globally. While the framework still needs refining, it is likely to completely transform the sector.

2. Kinetics and Mitsui OSK Lines sign MOU to develop world’s first integrated floating data center platform. Mitsui O.S.K. Lines,, one of the world’s leading shipping companies, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding  with Kinetics, the energy transition initiative of global floating power leader Karpowership, to jointly develop a next-generation Floating Data Center platform.

4. Rebuilt Stena Foreteller returns to service with enhanced efficiency. In the end of July, the ship Stena Foreteller will return to service on the Europoort/Rotterdam – Immingham route following a major rebuild and renovation. With a new additional cargo deck and a 30 percent increase in capacity, the vessel becomes more efficient and further reduces CO₂ emissions per cargo unit.

9. World’s first hybrid solar-powered inland shipping vessel starts work.
