1. Union Home Minister Amit Shah Inaugurates India Maritime Week 2025 in Mumbai. 

The Union Minister for Home Affairs and Cooperation, Amit Shah inaugurated the India Maritime Week (IMW) 2025 at the NESCO Exhibition Centre here today, marking the beginning of the world’s largest maritime gathering.

2. Adani Group to top-up Dighi Port bet with another Rs 42,500 cr investment. The Adani Group has committed to invest another Rs 42,500 crore in the Dighi Port project in the coastal Konkan belt of Maharashtra, government officials said on Monday. Group’s flagship entity Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ)-run Dighi Ports signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Maharashtra Government to invest another Rs 42,500 crore for expansion of the port and related activities, an official said.

3. Polestar Maritime set to win green tug deal at Jawaharlal Nehru Port. Polestar Maritime Ltd has placed the lowest day rate of Rs 5,89,500 each to emerge the successful bidder for chartering two battery electric green tugs of 60-ton bollard pull capacity to Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority for 15 years, sources said.This will be the fourth green tug tender to be finalised by state-owned major ports after Deendayal Port Authority, New Mangalore Port Authority, VOC Port Authority.

4. Engine room blaze knocks out power on Grimaldi car carrier. A Grimaldi Euromed-owned car carrier has lost propulsion due to a fire in the engine room.

The company said that the fire in the engine room of the 2003-built car carrier Grande Roma started around 10 pm local time on October 25, while exiting the English Channel.

5. Ashdod port unveils infrastructure upgrade plan worth over $450m. Israel’s Ashdod Port Company has announced an infrastructure investment program valued at approximately NIS 1.5bn ($458m) to enhance efficiency and expand capabilities.

The investment program includes a series of projects to modernise and optimise the port’s facilities, with a focus on transforming quays into specialised terminals according to cargo segments.

6. Helmut Sohmen, giant of global shipping, dies in Hong Kong. One of the titans of global shipping, Dr Helmut Sohmen, passed away yesterday in Hong Kong at the age of 85. The Austrian presided over one of the world’s largest shipping empires as chairman of World-Wide Shipping Group and later BW Group, before relinquishing the role to his son, Andreas Sohmen-Pao, 11 years ago.

7. Cargoship ‘Thamesborg’ Arrives in Eastern Canada After 10-week Odyssey, Grounding in Arctic. Thamesborg‘s journey from China to Canada was supposed to take just three to four weeks via an Arctic shortcut. It ended up lasting more than two months. Wagenborg’s general cargo ship has reached its originally intended destination of Baie Comeau in eastern Canada.

8. Chinese Ship Sinks Off Guangzhou Waters With Two Crew Missing. A Chinese-flagged ship has sunk in waters off Guangzhou after colliding with a Singapore-registered container ship, the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore said in a statement on Sunday.

NatPower Marine: “The IMO delay won’t slow the race to green shipping – it has already begun” Member States of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) have voted to delay for one year the adoption of draft amendments to MARPOL Annex VI, which would have created the world’s first truly global carbon-pricing mechanism for shipping.
