1. INTERCARGO reaffirms unity and momentum at 45th Anniversary AGM in Athens. The International Association of Dry Cargo Shipowners (INTERCARGO) held its Annual General Meeting and Semi-annual meetings at the Four Seasons Astir Palace in Athens on 3–4 November 2025, marking continued growth and important milestones in representing the dry bulk shipping sector.

2. Scorpio Tankers refreshes MR fleet with sale and newbuild swoop. Scorpio Tankers is reshuffling its MR product tanker lineup, agreeing to sell four existing vessels while snapping up four modern newbuildings set to join its fleet in 2026 and 2027.The Monaco-headquartered company, led by Emanuele Lauro (pictured), has signed deals to sell four 2014-built, scrubber-fitted MRs — STI Battery, STI Venere, STI Milwaukee and STI Yorkville — for $32m each. The transactions are expected to close in the first quarter of 2026. 

3. BIMCO Shipping Number of the Week. China’s 12m tonnes US soya bean pledge could drive deman

“Following US-China trade negotiations, China has committed to resume imports of US soya beans. The country has agreed to purchase 12m tonnes during the rest of 2025 and 25m tonnes per year during the next three years, similar to 2024 volumes. If these commitments are met, US soya bean shipments are expected to surge in the short term before stabilising in the medium term,” says Filipe Gouveia, Shipping Analysis Manager at BIMCO.

4. Sustainable Transport Investment Plan builds momentum for clean fuel uptake but immediate follow-up is needed. The Commission published this morning the Sustainable Transport Investment Plan putting forward an action plan for investments in clean fuels.

European Shipowners welcome the Sustainable Transport Investment Plan as a good first step that identifies many gaps and shortcomings in the existing European policy and finance framework.

6. AET expands dual-fuel fleet with suezmax pair at Samsung Heavy. AET has placed an order at Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) for two LNG dual-fuel suezmax tankers, further expanding its fleet of lower-emission vessels.

The Singapore-based tanker arm of Malaysia’s top shipping line, MISC, said the latest deal marks a key step in its push to operate dual-fuel ships across all key tanker segments — aframax, shuttle tanker, suezmax and VLCC.

7. Emboldened Somali pirates spark fear in the Indian Ocean. The threat of Somali piracy is re-emerging in the Indian Ocean, with recent incidents highlighting the increasing sophistication and reach of pirate groups.

8. Germany Mulls Expanding Order For Submarine-Hunting Planes. Germany may buy four additional Boeing Co. P-8A Poseidon submarine-hunting planes, according to people familiar with the matter, as the first of eight already purchased landed in Berlin amid growing security threats from Russia.

9. Shipping Firm CMA CGM Says It Will Continue Services In Mali. CMA CGM SA, a major global shipping firm, said it will continue operations in Mali, which is grappling with disruptions caused by militants. The late Friday statement from CMA CGM followed a meeting with Malian authorities amid worsening security conditions and fuel shortages.Earlier, CMA CGM and rival MSC Mediterranean Shipping Co. SA had indicated a suspension of services due to the deteriorating backdrop.

10. US Grants Hungary Exemption On Russia Sanctions. The United States has granted Hungary a one-year exemption from U.S. sanctions for using Russian oil and gas, a White House official said on Friday, after Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban pressed his case for a reprieve during a friendly meeting with President Donald Trump in Washington.
