Narrative:
A merchant vessel was likely targeted by an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) by the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Sea of Azov. Thermal satellite imagery showed a fire 2.77NM north of Osoviny, Ukraine. At the time of writing Ukrainian Unmanned Systems (SBS) aggregator of successful verified maritime and land strikes reported that a total of twelve vessels were targeted and damaged on 9 July. At the time of the attack there were no merchant vessels observed in the area of interest; however, Ambrey is aware that merchant vessels have been withholding their AIS signals while conducting Black Sea and Sea of Azov port calls.
ADVICE: Vessels conducting Black Sea port calls are advised to conduct comprehensive dynamic voyage threat assessments. The crew is advised to remain within the designated Safe Muster Point (SMP) during UAV/missile attacks on infrastructure. The SMP should be located above the waterline, amidships, and low down in the superstructure.
