UPDATE 04: Ambrey received information that the PAG vacated the vessel after they stole crew belongings. At the time of writing, the vessel and the crew are free from the PAG control. Ambrey assessed the incident to be closed.

UPDATE 03: Ambrey received information that the vessel, still under the control of the PAG, is currently stationary approximately 32NM southwest of Eyl, Somalia. Reportedly, the vessel had run out of fuel. Ambrey assessed it likely that the PAG is attempting to refuel the vessel before heading out to sea. At the time of the boarding, the vessel was fully laden with fish.

UPDATE02: Ambrey identified the hijacked vessel as a 16-metre fibreglass white-hulled fishing boat.

UPDATE01: A suspected Pirate Action Group (PAG) reportedly hijacked one fishing boat off the coast of Garmaal, Somalia. The suspects reportedly kidnapped the captain and four crew members. Hijacked fishing vessels have in the past been used as staging platforms for boarding attempts against merchant vessels. ADVICE: Ambrey advises merchant vessels to increase vigilance, ensure adherence to BMP, and to engage armed security where possible if the vessel has a permissible freeboard. Vessels should report sightings of any suspicious activity.
