Priority Alert – Indian Ocean Region
War risk/Sighting
Details
Narrative:
The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) conducted an airstrike on the Ansar Allah (“Houthi”)-controlled capital of Sana’a, Yemen. US officials stated that the airstrike targeted Houthi “bases, leaders, and missile defenses to protect American shipping, air, and naval assets, and to restore Navigational Freedom.” Houthi officials claimed that the airstrike was a joint operation between the US and the British Royal Air Force. At the time of writing, the United Kingdom had not confirmed their involvement in the attack. A spokesperson for the Houthis announced that “After the US-British aggression against Yemen, Yemeni naval operations against US-British ships will resume, and we will confront escalation with escalation.”
ADVICE: Ambrey advises merchant shipping to check their affiliation with the Houthi target profile, and to reassess the risk to voyages through the Red Sea, and the Gulf of Aden. Vessels with a medium-high affiliation are advised to consider naval close protection or to reconsider the transit.
