Narrative:
A Bangladesh-flagged bulk carrier was reportedly boarded by two individuals whilst transiting eastbound in the Singapore Strait 2.2NM northwest of Pemping Island, Indonesia. The suspects were reportedly armed with “gun-like object”. At the time of writing, the vessel— which was enroute from Marmagao, India to Singapore— was observed continuing her journey. During the incident the vessel had an estimated freeboard of 11.85m and was underway at 8.2kts. Ambrey will follow up with all relevant updates.
ADVICE: Crews transiting the Singapore Strait with freeboards lower than 10m are advised they are at heightened risk. Crews should lock down access to the accommodation block and ship’s stores. It is recommended to carry out partnered deck patrols. Do not confront criminals.
