Narrative:
A Marshall Islands-flagged bulk carrier was boarded by five individuals while transiting eastbound in the Philip Channel, 7NM northeast of Great Karimun, Indonesia. Two suspects were reportedly armed with gun-like objects. At the time of the incident, the vessel had an estimated freeboard of 10.1m. The vessel was observed continuing her journey to Singapore. Ambrey reported on three boardings in the Singapore Strait in the last three hours. ADVICE: Crews transiting the Singapore Strait with freeboards lower than 10m are advised they are at heightened risk. Crews should lock down access to the accommodation block and ship’s stores. It is recommended to carry out partnered deck patrols. Do not confront criminals.
