War risk/Sighting
Details
Narrative:
A Sao Tome & Principe general cargo ship was discharging whilst a Russian missile struck the port of Odesa, Ukraine. Two crew members of the general cargo vessel were injured in the attack. The missile struck the berth where the vessel was unloading a shipment of metal. Two individuals, a port operator and lorry driver, were killed. A further six individuals were wounded, including the two crew members. Damage to gantry cranes, warehouses and port equipment was reported at the berth. Ambrey observed no merchant vessel transmitting AIS at the port of Odesa; however, Ambrey is aware that merchant vessels had been withholding their AIS signal when calling Ukrainian ports and transiting its waters. This was the second Russian airborne attack on Ukrainian maritime infrastructure within 48 hours. ADVICE: Vessels conducting Black Sea port calls are advised to conduct comprehensive dynamic voyage threat assessments. The crew is advised to remain within the designated Safe Muster Point (SMP) during UAV attacks on infrastructure. The SMP should be located above the waterline, amidships, and low-down in the superstructure.
