War risk/Sighting
Details
Narrative:
Russian forces conducted an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) and missile attack on the port city of Odessa, Ukraine. Air raid sirens for Odesa Oblast were first activated at 19:34 UTC on 6 September. Multiple explosions were reported in the city between 01:08 UTC and 03:06 UTC, including in the port area. The Ukrainian Navy claimed to have intercepted seven Russian UAVs during the attack. Ukrainian authorities stated that the attack injured three civilians and caused damage to residential buildings, a warehouse and rail infrastructure. At the time of writing, no damage to merchant vessels or casualties among either crew or port workers had been reported. Based on AIS data, Ambrey observed no merchant vessels in the port and one merchant vessel in Odessa Anchorage. However, Ambrey is aware that merchant vessels have been withholding their AIS signals and are subject to electronic warfare disturbances when transiting Ukrainian and Russian waters.

ADVICE: Vessels conducting Black Sea port calls are advised to conduct comprehensive dynamic voyage threat assessments. The crew is advised to remain within the designated Safe Muster Point (SMP) during UAV attacks on infrastructure. The SMP should be located above the waterline, amidships, and low-down in the superstructure.
