Priority Alert – Europe and the Mediterranean
War risk/Sighting
Details
Narrative:
Russian forces conducted an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) attack on the port of Chornomorsk, Odesa Oblast, Ukraine. Air raid sirens in Odesa Oblast were activated at 19:57 UTC on 9 October and remained in place until 22:38 UTC. The attack reportedly involved seven “Shahed-136” type UAVs that approached from the Black Sea. Unconfirmed reports suggested that transshipment areas, storage facilities, and critical infrastructure had been damaged. Still imagery showed three large fires within the port limits and likely indicated the presence of a container vessel alongside at the port. Video footage also captured the sound of UAVs approaching the port, accompanied by anti-aircraft gunfire. At the time of writing, no casualties or damage to merchant vessels had been reported. Ambrey is investigating and will provide updates when available.
ADVICE: Vessels conducting Black Sea port calls are advised to conduct comprehensive dynamic voyage threat assessments. The crew is advised to remain within the designated Safe Muster Point (SMP) during UAV attacks on infrastructure. The SMP should be located above the waterline, amidships, and low-down in the superstructure.
