Narrative:
UPDATE01: A tanker was forcibly obstructed in its transit by Iranian forces while transiting the Strait of Hormuz. The vessel was confirmed to have suffered an explosion and subsequent fire outbreak after being impacted by an external force. Iranian state-affiliated media reported that the vessel attempted to transit the strait without prior coordination with Iranian authorities.
Uncorroborated reports indicated that multiple explosions were audible off the coast of Sirik, Hormozgan Province, Iran. At the time of writing, the cause of the explosions was not disclosed.
ADVICE: Vessels are advised to reconsider transiting the Strait of Hormuz. Ambrey advises merchant vessels to monitor VHF Channel 16 when operating in the Arabian Gulf and during Strait of Hormuz approaches. Vessels under military protection during Strait transits are advised to seek advice from U.S. authorities.
